Oliero Cave System Survey Project
As the project to Survey Oliero gains force we had a second
session to keep going on the survey of Oliero cave system in the
Southern East Alps, Valstagna, Italy
We had plan to continue the survey on Dec 9th 2007 on rbs,
however 2 weeks ago we had a lot of rain, that flood the caves and
reduce the visibility to less than 1 mt and flow was very strong.
5 days later I start a cave class and conditions quickly improve to
3-6mt moderate flow, temp 7°C. Great for training but not ideal for
long range rb dives. So we decide to postpone the rb dive for clear
water, but continue survey on OC along the shortcut found last time
and the main passage of Cogol di Siori.
Scout team report on Friday cave conditions viz within 3-6mt, 7°C
and moderate flow, however forecast held without rain until Sunday,
so we stick to the plan even we knew was going to be very
challenging conditions to survey.
Fenu is on the last phase of recovering from a minor leg injury and
decide to sit the dive for next weekend scout trip to Sardinia's
caves and took care of the surface management, setting a high
standard
for this key position in a diving team.
14 divers were split the survey job in 3 gas teams, 1 support team,
2 safety teams. 12 scooters, 34 stages, 13 double tanks were
ferried in to the cave and 217 more MTS were survey despite the
challenging conditions.
Despite of the short daylight hours, Surface manager kept teams
flowing steady we met at 8.30 and at 3.30pm we were on our way
for early dinner.
Thanks to the Zone23 team and the dir-austria team to join us in
this endeavour, special thanks to Tony and Ike to make this a fun
diving day for me ; )
