Wings and Backplate
Wings
Basic Diving Accessories
A Back Plate provide a stable and strong
base for building your cave diving rig.

Only Stainless Steel backplate are
acceptable, in any case must not be wider
than diver back and should be riding high
on your back basically you should be able
to touch it bending your arms behind your
head.
You need 5 SS "D" rings: one on each
side, 1 on left belt and 1 front and 1 back
crotch strap. Crotch strap must be loose.

Backplate + Wing = easy trim
One piece upper
webbing cut to fit.
Must bolt crotch
strap for safe
scootering
A horseshoe Wing provides easy balancing
of right and left diver side during the dive,
also is the easiest to inflate orally.
In case of puncture on side  the other side
provides partial buoyancy.
Bungee wings reduce this features
considerable.
Round wings provide positive feedback
upon dump valve use that promotes trim.
However are weaker on side to side
balancing.

Diving suit
All diving accessories most be robust and resist abuse
from cave diving.

It is highly recommended to be storage inside suit side
pockets on leg

All loose accessories should have a bolt snap to be secure
on chest "D" ring when in use or bungee cord inside pocket
to avoid getting stuff lost.

While wearing stage bottles the right pocket is not so easily
reached with left hand, so all the gear that will be used in
the dive should be on left pocket .

Emergency goods on right pocket specially back up mask,
as we have direct access with right hand.

If not carrying a spare wrist seal on wet notes, leaving
normal  adjustable bottom timer strap could allow for
minimizing water intrusion on suit in a rip wrist seal
situation.

Spring straps may roll if not fit properly, "fin keepers" are a
good solution for flat Achilles  tendon too, on people using
turbo soles

Braided line holds better upon abrasion minor cuts,
doesn't untwist

Twisted line traditionally was thinner than braided
and will pack more line on exploration reels.
Not anymore you can get also thin braided line
making the best choice for cave diving line on reels
and spools
Diving suits must be flexible and soft, to allow full
movement but strong enough to withstand
abrasion from environment, the best material is
trilaminate TLS 350.I formerly use DUI for a while
now I move to UTD Suits X3 lite and X6

You must have a back up suit in site to no miss
any dive, I have soft soles for long dives easy
access dive site and prefer rock boots for tuff
access, or sump diving.

In cold water heating plug is a must and "P"valves
promote proper hydration, besides making dives
over 4hr bearable.

Side pockets are easily accessible and prevent
unnecessary entanglements or  loosing
equipment .

Hood should be 6mm sides with air traps in 3mm
or cold water one 12mm sides !

In water colder than 15°C is a must to use dry
gloves, Smallest rings made of strong aluminium
are available thru UTD Online store.

A primary Reel must hold at least 120mt of braided
line.

A safety spool must hold 50MTS as minimum.
This spool will be use in emergency scenarios.

A smaller spool for jumps and gaps with 30mt of
lines, maximizes pocket spaces if needing
multiple jumps during the dive.

The possibilites of diving warm and staying warm
are a reality thanks to electric heating

Initally electric heating was all home made and
used only in extreme dives due to bulky battery
canisters, with the arrival of lithium technology and
mfg heating vests is possible in everyday diving.

Dry Gloves mmhhh !
UTD X3 lite is the lightest
and soft TLS suit in the
market today.
